Specification

Entry

The honours program is an alternative final three semesters of the Bachelor of Teaching course for selected students.

1 Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching with honours may qualify for entry by attaining the Faculty specified Grade Point Average (GPA) on their course work results in year one in the Bachelor of Teaching course as well as having demonstrated high proficiency in teaching practice. In addition, a credit result or above must be obtained in the research methods unit in semester 2 of year 1 of the Bachelor of Teaching course.

2 Candidates for the degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than two years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than five years, from the time of first enrolment.

Course Structure

3 [i] To qualify for the degree with honours, the candidate shall successfully complete units totalling 200% as outlined in the schedule accompanying these specifications.

[ii] The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with the Schedule accompanying these specifications.

[iii] A candidate shall present a dissertation in a form and on a topic approved by the head of school.

4 [i] Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculty and as summarised in the Schedule.

[ii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.

[iii] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

Classes of Honours

5 The Classes of honours shall be first class, second class and third class. There shall be an upper and lower division in the second class. The determination of the level of honours shall be based upon a candidate's grade point average in all honours units.

Miscellaneous

6 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.

7 These specifications shall take effect from semester 2 2008 and shall apply to all candidates for the award, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

8 The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching with Honours shall be BTeach(Hons).
