Specification
Entry
| 1 |
Candidates for the Bachelor of Teaching shall be qualified for entry if they have completed: |
|
[i] |
(a) |
a bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania, or of another higher education institution deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent, in a discipline other than Education; or |
|
|
(b) |
the requirements of a course at some other tertiary institution accepted by the Faculty as being equivalent in content to the course for a degree in the University of Tasmania and providing a suitable background for a course in teacher training; and |
|
[ii] |
relevant previous study in the area of intended teacher specialisation. |

[iii] |
In special cases the Faculty may accept a candidate for the degree who does not satisfy the requirements specified in paragraphs (a) or (b) above, but who has qualifications and relevant professional experience, which it deems to be a suitable preparation for admission to the course. In such cases, the Faculty may require the candidate to undergo such preliminary studies as it considers appropriate. |

Candidates for the degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than two years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than six years, from the time of first enrolment. |
Course structure

[i] |
To qualify for the award, the candidate shall complete a course of study prescribed by the Faculty. A candidate shall pass units totalling 200% in accordance with the schedule accompanying these specifications. |

[ii] |
The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with Schedule A, (Secondary) or Schedule A (K--6). |

[i] |
Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculty and as summarised in Schedule A. |

[ii] |
A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting. If enrolled part-time, due regard must be given to the corequisites for each subject. |

[iii] |
Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree. |
|
[iv] |
In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3. |
Credit for previous studies

Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree. |
Miscellaneous

The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications. |

These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 1997 and shall apply to a 11 candidates for the award, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently. |
| 8 |
The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Teaching shall be BTeach. |
