Specification

Entry

1 The Faculty of Commerce (hereinafter called the Faculty) may accept as a candidate for the Associate Degree in General Studies any candidate who is qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's rules of admission.

Course Structure

3 [i] To qualify for the Associate Degree, the candidate shall pass units to a weighting of 200%, of which not more than 125% may be taken from first year units. A maximum of 50% foundation units may be included within the 125% first year limit.

[ii] The units which may be included in the Associate Degree shall be those approved by the Course Coordinator, from an approved range of units described in the University Handbook

4 [i] Units may be counted towards the Associate Degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the relevant Faculty and described in the University Handbook.

[ii] Only units identified in the University Handbook and which the Faculty has approved may be counted towards the award.

[iii] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Course Coordinator, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

[iv] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the Associate Degree.

Credit for Previous Studies

5 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Associate Degree, provided that the relevant Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the Associate Degree.

Miscellaneous

6 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the schedules of approved units

7 These specifications shall take effect on 1 July 2005 and shall apply to all candidates for the Associate Degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

8 The approved abbreviation for the Associate Degree shall be AssocDegGenSt.
