Introduction

(Coordinator: Dr Anthony Koutoulis (03) 6226 2737) This one-year full-time or two-year part-time course is available at Hobart.

Admission & Prerequisites

Bachelor of Biotechnology degree at this University or equivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution. Candidates would normally be expected to obtain at least a credit average in their third year units.
Candidature is subject to appropriate supervision being available for the thesis topic approved by the Faculty and subject to satisfying the prerequisites required for the chosen field of study.

Course Objectives

This course specifically aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, competencies and awareness in preparation for employment in industry and research organizations working in the expanding biotechnology sector as well as for research in higher degrees.

Career Outcomes

The biotechnology industry is research focused, spanning from pure research to industrial applications. Graduates with research training are therefore well prepared for employment in government laboratories, universities, research organisations and consultancies, particularly with agricultural, pharmaceutical, chemical, food and other specialist biotechnology companies.


Articulation to/from Course


Graduates of the BBiotech(Hons) course may enrol for a higher degree by research.

Professional Recognition

Graduates may be eligible for membership of a number of professional organizations.
