Introduction
The 4-year full-time combined degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business is offered on the Launceston and Hobart campuses by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Business. A restricted program is available at the Cradle Coast Campus. For further information, contact the Faculty of Businessor the Faculty of Arts.
These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing thecourse in 2009. For students who commenced prior to 2009, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2006 should refer to the 2006 Handbook.
Admission & Prerequisites
Possession of the University's minimum entry requirements including in the case of Tasmanian school-leavers TCE MT730 Mathematics Applied.
Students returning to study after a long absence and/or new students lacking confidence in their quantitative skills should enroll in the unit
UPP090 Bridging Maths or
BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods. The major objective of these units is to remove any Maths phobia experienced by first year students and along the way to provide a first acquaintance of business study applications of these techniques. The units lead gently into the elementary aspects of
BEA140 Quantitative Methods.
Course Objectives
The objectives of the combined degrees are:
- to complement traditional studies in humanities and social sciences with a wide range of management, accounting, marketing and business skills;
- to broaden the opportunities of Business students to undertake studies in languages and area studies.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business could expect to obtain employment in accounting, finance, international business, human resource or personnel management, marketing, journalism and public relations, government and teaching.
Articulation to/from Course
Students who have completed the Advanced Diploma of Business and have been admitted to the course will receive credit for the core compulsory units in Business. Credit towards the Business component on the basis of other qualifications may apply. Please contact the Faculty of Business for further information.
Professional Recognition
If students wish to be eligible for membership of a professional body they will need to select units endorsed by that body. The faculty offers units to enable students to join the following professional bodies:

Miscellaneous Information
Bachelor of Arts (Advanced Honours)
This program is available to high achieving students in the BA component of the combined BA-BBus.
This is a special program that recognizes high achieving students. Entry to the program requires an ITI score of 90 or greater and in order to maintain a place in the direct entry program students will be required to be awarded the Dean's Roll of Excellence each year. Students not initially admitted to the program but who achieve the Dean's Roll of Excellence at the end of Year 1, 2 or 3 will be invited to be part of the program. At the discretion of the Dean students transferring from other institutions may be eligible to enter the program.
Students participating in this program will be required to fulfill all the normal BA component requirements and will be encouraged to develop their academic potential through participation in targeted research seminars. Individual academic mentoring and advice is also provided.
