Introduction

Changing models of health care delivery designed to improve quality and access to services require effective leaders who are able to utilise information technology and build and engage teams. This course provides the opportunity for health professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge enabling them to become leaders in health services.

Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to successfully assume a range of leadership roles in health services in a wide variety of settings. The core units provide the opportunity for participants to develop a strong theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary health services. Units explore models of health care, leadership, project management, change management, governance and legal issues.

Admission & Prerequisites

In these specifications 'Faculty' means Faculty of Health Science.
Entry


Candidates for the Master in Health shall be qualified for entry if they:

Hold a three-year degree with a major in a health related area,


OR


Have equivalent experience and/or qualifications as deemed appropriate by the
Faculty.


For international students who do not use English as their first language, minimum
requirements are IELTS Overall band 6.0, with no band less than 6.0.


Candidates for the Master in Health shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter
prescribed, in not less than three years of study and not more than six years from the time of
first enrolment.


Articulation to/from Course

Candidates with relevant clinical supervision/ clinical leadership, management and/or e-health
qualifications may be considered for RPL.

Professional Recognition

The course is being designed in consultation with relevant professional bodies including the
Australian College of Health Service Executives, the Royal College of Nursing Australia, the
Australian College of Health Informatics, and specialist medical colleges, taking cognisance of their
accreditation requirements. It is anticipated that the course will be accredited with these and other
relevant professional bodies.

Miscellaneous Information

- The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedule to these specifications.
- These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2008 and shall apply to all candidates for the
Master, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

The approved abbreviation for the degree of Master in Health shall be
MHlth (Specialisation).

Credit for Previous Studies
Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or
another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be
credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so
credited shall be required to do to qualify for the Masters.
