Introduction
The UTAS and Sydney South West Area Health Service(SSWAHS) have a partnership that recognises the enormous challenges and changes in health service delivery. There is a particular imperative to ensure effective leadership and governance in health systems. National and international studies have demonstrated repeatedly the benefits, in terms of reduced risk and better quality care that flow from effective leadership and well designed clinical systems that are subject to regular multidisciplinary review of outcomes. Teaching, training, education and research all contribute to a culture and environment of inquiry, learning and reflection, which is crucial to service quality.
