Introduction

The UTAS and Sydney South West Area Health Service(SSWAHS) have a partnership that recognises the enormous challenges and changes in health service delivery. There is a particular imperative to ensure effective leadership and governance in health systems. National and international studies have demonstrated repeatedly the benefits, in terms of reduced risk and better quality care that flow from effective leadership and well designed clinical systems that are subject to regular multidisciplinary review of outcomes. Teaching, training, education and research all contribute to a culture and environment of inquiry, learning and reflection, which is crucial to service quality. Workplace training is vital to assure a highly skilled, pro-active and capable health workforce.

Admission & Prerequisites

Candidates for the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision shall be qualified for entry if they:

  • are a registered and currently practicing clinician for a minimum of three years, OR
  • have equivalent experience and/or qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Dean.


Course Objectives

  • To promote contemporary trends in the theory and practice of clinical supervision and clinical leadership.

  • To encourage clinicians to engage critically in current debates on reform of the Australian health care system.

  • To enable clinicians to demonstrate ability in clinical supervision.

Career Outcomes

This is a workplace learning professional development program for clinical staff engaged through the SSWAHS or by prior arrangement with the Dean.

Candidates may articulateto the GradDipClinSup&ClinLship (M6J).

Professional Recognition

It is anticipated that the course will be recognised by the RCNA, specialist medical colleges and allied health professional bodies for Quality Assurance and Professional Development points.
