Introduction
A four year combined degree program. The educational objectives of the course are consistent with those of the Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Teaching single degrees. In addition, the course aims to qualify students for employment as teachers in areas that encompass health science, food and technology areas, which have traditionally had difficulty attracting suitably qualified teachers.
Admission & Prerequisites
Minimum university entrance requirements, however at least one science pre-tertiary unit is also required.
The prerequisite can be any one of the following:
- BIO5C Biology
- CHM5C Chemistry
- PSC5C Physical Sciences
- PHY5C Physics
- MAP5C Mathematics Applied or MSP5C Mathematics Specialised or MME5C Mathematics Methods. Interstate applicants will be required to have completed a subject deemed to be the equivalent of one of these.
HP810 Health Studies, HP817 Sports Science or food studies would be appropriate additional pre-tertiary units.
It is expected that the ITI cut-off would be set around 70.
Students will be encouraged to undertake relevant Foundation units (KRA001 Chemistry Foundation Unit, KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit or KYA004 Physics Foundation Unit) where appropriate.
Articulation to/from Course
Students will not be able to articulate to the BTeach if they withdraw from the BHlthSc. Students will be able to fully articulate into the BHlthSc degree without any time or load penalty at the completion of year one. The BHlthSc -BTeach does not articulate with any other courses. Transfers to other courses (e.g. BBiomedSc) may be possible subject to performance and quota restrictions.
Students in the BHlthSc (M3H) degree will be able to articulate directly into the degree at the end of Year 1, subject to performance.
Professional Recognition
Graduates who meet the Bachelor's degrees are recognized by teacher employing authorities throughout Australia and some overseas countries and meet the requirements for teaching in the areas of health science, food and technology.
