Introduction
The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice is 24-26-week full-time course conducted by the Centre for Legal Studies in Hobart. The course runs from February to July each year. It is an approved course of practical instruction in the duties of a legal practitioner, for the purposes of the Legal Profession Act 2007 Section 25
Admission & Prerequisites
Applicants need to have successfully completed a degree of Bachelor of Laws or a combined degree course including the Bachelor of Laws at the University of Tasmania or any other approved Australian university. Applicants need to have passed the requirements of the subjects prescribed by the Board of Legal Education pursuant to Section 25 of the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Tas). Course Objectives
To develop essential skills and competencies,
a) to help aspiring practitioners bridge the gap between law graduates and legal practitioner;
b) to ensure that aspiring practitioners have the threshold competencies that the public reasonably expect of legal practitioners; and
c) to extend, and focus for specific vocational purposes, the knowledge and skills that graduates obtain in the academic component.
Career Outcomes
Successful completion of the course is normal prerequisite for admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

Fees
The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice is a fee-based course and is eligible for FEE-Help.
