Introduction

TheMasters ofMaritime Studies (specialisation) programme provides opportunities for further study for people who already operate in the maritime and maritime related sectors (both private and public) and it will provide students with in-depth exposure to a broad range of relevant disciplines. Initially, the programme will be available by distance on a part time basis. However, a number of units will also be available in short course format each year, enabling students to attend the AMC for an intensive five-day tuition programme with follow up assessment. Units will also be available to professionals who may not wish to enrol in the programme but who may wish to develop expertise in a particular area for professional development reasons.

Admission & Prerequisites

Graduate Diploma in Maritime Studies (Specialisation) or equivalent.

Course Objectives

Completion of theMasters will enable students to:

  • analyse the critical factors that impact upon the maritime domain from a variety of perspectives: economic, political, social and ecological;
  • appreciate the processes and institutional frameworks that are significant in the development of public policy;
  • investigate complex problems and develop a range of alternative solutions;
  • form balanced judgments in order to be able to make effective decisions;
  • work in a variety of maritime and maritime-related sectors such as appropriate departments of government, maritime administration and maritime transport, the tourism industry, shipping, the off-shore industries and all levels of government; and
  • apply a broad range of generic/transferable skills in other areas of endeavour.

Career Outcomes

TheMasters is targeted at professional managers and administrators who are seeking to progress their careers in the maritime and maritime-related sectors.
