Introduction
This course covers the academic requirements for the certificate(s) of competency as Deck Watchkeeper, Chief Mate and Master. The course combines all units up to the shipmasters level into an integrated training program that incorporates the minimum sea service necessary for eligibility for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) oral examination for the issue of the Certificate of Competency as Deck Watchkeeper.

Admission & Prerequisites
AMC requests completion of Grade 12 with passes in Mathematics and Science, and Grade 10 English.
Course Objectives
The Advanced Diploma of Applied Science (Nautical Science) has been developed to provide students with contemporary expertise for careers in shipboard operation in the capacity of senior officer and command within the international merchant shipping industry in the areas of Maritime business and law,Command navigation and voyage planning,Advanced Cargo operations,Ship stability and stress monitoring,Emergency response,Global Maritime communication,Shipboard management,Ship regulation and Leadership.
This program has been developed in response to industry demand for a pathway for students to complete all academic study for senior qualifications prior to obtaining an AMSA Deck Watchkeeper qualification. This is a training option required by a number of clients including Australian and overseas shipping companies.
Career Outcomes
This course provides an international qualification which allows the student to become a Deck Watchkeeping Officer on any trading vessel of unlimited tonnage.
Articulation to/from Course
With additional sea time the student can undertake the AMSA oral examinations for Chief Mate and thence Master, which allows the candidate to sail as a senior officer on trading vessels. Also the Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Operations).
