Introduction
The Diploma of Marine Engineering (Watchkeeper) course covers the academic requirements for a Watchkeeper Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Competency. Graduates are also awarded an internationally-accredited Diploma. The course takes approximately six months to complete.

Admission & Prerequisites
- Possession of an Australian Maritime SafetyAuthority (AMSA) approved trade certificate;
- Sea experience as determined by AMSA. See
www.amsa.gov.au ;
- Completion of an at-sea training program, (provided by AMC), for those students wishing to obtain an AMSA Certificate of Competency;
- Students with English as a second language require an IELTS score of at least 6.0;
- AMSA approved medical and eyesight requirements apply.

There is a worldwide shortage of qualified marine engineer officers, which improves career opportunities for young engineers.
Articulation to/from Course
After completion of the DME (W/K) and further sea service, students may enrol in the ADME (Chief Engineer) course.
