The Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching for Health Professionals was developed in response to demand for a program to meet both the needs of health professionals as clinical teachers and the changing educational requirements of medical, nursing, pharmacy and other professionally accredited health courses. The objectives of the course are to improve the standard of learning and teaching by:
- developing both a theoretical understanding of student learning and practical skills in facilitating that learning as it applies to Higher Education;
- promoting scholarship of teaching based on critical self-reflection, research (including practical research into matters of learning and teaching), and peer review;
- developing knowledge and skills in the area of teaching, evaluation and assessment through modelling strategies that lead to deep learning; and encouraging flexible delivery (in terms of both content structure and delivery modes); and,
- developing cross-campus and cross-faculty communities of practice.
These objectives will be pursued through the provision of a flexibly structured program that allows for the needs and characteristics of different discipline fields and different groups with a teaching role.
Admission & Prerequisites
Applicants must have completed a Bachelors degree or equivalent. All assessment will be practical and work-place-based, therefore, applicants will be expected to be currently engaged in some form of undergraduate or post-graduate teaching activity related to the clinical health care setting.
Articulation to/from Course
Credit for relevant units will be given to transferring students from similar programs at the University of Tasmania and other universities. This course will articulate with the Faculty of Education's Course-work Master and Doctor of Education programs.
