Introduction

This on-campus, 3-year full-time or 7-year part-time course is offered by the Faculty of Business at the Hobart and Launceston campuses.

Admission & Prerequisites

Possession of the University's basic admission requirements. The Drysdale Institute of TAFE Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management or an equivalent award as accepted by the Course Coordinator and/or by the Faculty of Business, is also required. Those without the former and those wishing to transfer from another approved course will be counselled as to the program of study that they would need to follow in order to undertake the Bachelor of Business Administration (TourismMgmt).

In the case of international students, and those students who do not have the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management from the Drysdale Institute of TAFE, credit for previous study will be determined on application.

English language skills will also need to be verified. International students must provide an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. Course Objectives

The course is designed to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts of management, a familiarity with significant literature in the field and the ability to review, consolidate, extend and apply the knowledge and techniques to the tourism management sector. It seeks to produce graduates with knowledge, skills and with an understanding of best practice in tourism management, who recognise the value of research, critical thinking and effective communication. Graduates develop professional skills in such areas as interpersonal communication, services management, team work, report writing and problem-solving techniques. The course provides holders of a Drysdale Institute of TAFE Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management or equivalent qualification with the opportunity to gain a professional universitydegree in tourism management.


Articulation to/from Course

Applicants who have completed the Drysdale Institute of TAFE Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management will be granted credit/advanced standingfor fourteen units towards the Bachelor of Business Administration (TourismMgmt) degree course. Candidates with an equivalent award will also be considered on an individual basis and following the advice from the Course Coordinator and the Faculty, may be granted credit up to a maximum of 14 units.
