Introduction
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) provides existing and potential early childhood professionals with higher levels of knowledge and skills to facilitate the provision of educationally sound programs foryoung children from birth to eight years of age. Graduates will also be qualified to teachchildren in the primary school years.In addition, the course will provide leaders in early childhood with competencies in teaching and leadership positions.
This degree program is available internally at Launceston and Cradle Coast campuses and externally/fully on-line from anywhere in the world, full-time or part-time.
Who should undertake this program?
* Child care professionals who would be considering their future as senior staff or directors of child services
* Child care professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge, skills and understandings and obtain a higher qualification directly relevant to their work
* School leavers who wish pursue a career in the field of early childhood
* Those who wish to specialise in teaching in the early years at primary schools.
This degree program is designed and enacted in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and appropriate employing authorities. At the core of the degree program is the student who is educated to bring to their work:

International students will require an overall IELTS average of 7.0 with no band lower than 6.5 and DEAP overall 70% (65% writing).

Course Objectives
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) qualifies students to work in early years' contexts from birth onwards and in primary school settings.
The degree reflects recognition of the changing nature of early years' education and care. The early years of a child's life are crucial in their development and it is widely known that the quality of education and care that children receive in their early years makes a real difference to their developmental and later outcomes. Research shows that participating in a quality early childhood education program has ongoing benefits for children throughout their schooling and beyond, especially those from more disadvantaged backgrounds. The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), prepares professionals seeking to bridge the gap between childcare and school, thus ensuring that childhood programs are educationally and developmentally rigorous.
The degree program is informed by a strong theory-practice nexus and is designed to prepare graduates with:

The course content and practical experience provides theroetical and practical opportunitites to practice what is learned in a safe and supportive environment.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) will be qualified to teach in public and private sector schools, and work in childcare centres and after-school care in most states of Australia from birth through to primary school and internationally. Graduates are also highly sought in other employment sectors which include communication-based jobs in industry training, and public relations.
Articulation to/from Course
Students who have undertaken an appropriate course at another Australian or overseas institution of further education or TAFE college may apply to receive credit for such study. Applications for credit can be made upon application to the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) course.

Miscellaneous Information
Internally/On-Campus: Face-to-face classes will be conducted on either Newnham campus in Launceston or Cradle Coast campus in Burnie and online.
Externally/Fully online: All units in Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) are available fully online. To meet the participation and assessment requirements of fully online units, access to an educational setting may be required.
On-campus international students can only study the equivalent of one quarter of their degree on-line.
Professional Experience:Under graduate students must be available to attend unpaid professional experience in an educational setting for a number of weeks each year, totalling a minimum of 85 days over 4 years. Students may need to undertake an additional 20-45 days early years'experience in an early childhood setting. Safety Screening must be sought and is required in addition to Teachers Registration Board Good Character Check for early childhood placements.
Professional experience / Early Years' placementis embedded into five units; Foundations of Teaching, Planning for Positive Behaviour; Inclusive Practices in Education Settings and Preparing for the Profession. Early Years' placement 1 (birth to two years) is embedded in the unit entitled Curriculum and Pedagogy.
In the five units aligned with Professional Experience/Early Years' Placements, students are required to successfully complete their assessment tasks and to show competence in the Early Years and school settings.
Exchanges: Students in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) course have the opportunity to seek a one-semester exchange with approved universities around the world. Students who are interested in applying for this one-semester exchange need to negotiate their request with the Course Co-ordinator.
The School of Education strongly encourages all students to maintain regular contact with an educational context. For this reason, volunteering in an educational setting or classroom is highly recommended for all students, regardless of study mode or pattern of attendance.
