THIS UNIT HAS A NEW CODE FROM 2013. Please refer to LAW455.
Compulsory unit. All Law students are required to enrol in this unit in their final year of study, except those who have successfully completed Jessup Moot (codeLAW692 or LAW637)
Students are required to participate in a moot in the final year of their degree. Moots are held in both first and second semesters and require attendance at the Supreme Court of Tasmania, at least two lectures and meetings with the moot coordinator. One staff member and a sitting practitioner normally adjudicate each moot. The moots are adjudicated under the following headings: organisation presentation (15%); development of argument (30%); questions from the bench (30%); speaking ability and delivery (25%).
All Law students must enrol in LAW407 (except those who have passed LAW692 Jessup Moot) to ensure that it appears on their academic transcripts.
Students who believe they may have grounds for being exempted from participation in the Faculty moot must present their evidence to the Moot co-ordinator who will assess whether they can be awarded an Ungraded Pass grade without participation. It is the student's responsibility to do this.
ASSESSMENT: Adjudicated by appointed staff member and practitioner
TEACHING PATTERN: at least 2 lectures, attendance at Supreme Court Moots, and meetings with the moot coordinator
