DESCRIPTION

This unit investigates the use of found materials to create sculpture. Recycled materials can be sourced from rubbish bins, skips, second hand shops, tip shops, paper recycling boxes, garages etc. The final works have the option of being outdoor or indoor sculpture and can be made from a vast range of materials. The conceptual process is an important part within the development of the sculpture. Students need to indicate a metaphor as a framework to develop the work before the materials are sought. However the selection of found materials implies that the original concept will evolve.

There will be a series of demonstrations involving the use of tools and techniques as they are related to the practice of sculpture. There will be a presentation to give an overview of recycled sculpture, where techniques and material usage will be examined. Through studio discussion, studio practice, and critiques you will develop the foundation necessary to produce technically competent and conceptually informed work.
