Harmony and Analysis B continues the study of tonal music with emphasis on form and analysis. Students will develop advanced skills in harmonic and contrapuntal analysis and chromatic chord function through works from the canon of Western music. The unit will also survey larger and more complex musical forms such as theme and variations, rondo, and sonata form, and examine more complex contrapuntal textures such as fugue. Aural skills will be further developed in conjunction with the written materials studied, including dictation skills in rhythm, chromatic melody and harmony, identification of compound intervals and chromatic chords, and individual and group sight-singing and rhythm reading at a more complex level.

Aural - class and individual assessments 30%, final assessment 20%
