Students will develop fluency in performance at an elementary level on one instrument of an orchestral family unfamiliar to them, and a working knowledge of the others. Group tuition methodologies will be presented and discussed, and method books and repertoire for beginners critically examined. Care and maintenance of all instruments in the families will be incorporated. Rehearsal and direction techniques for beginning ensembles will form another strand of the course, and be enhanced through observation visits to school-age ensembles in rehearsal.
