DESCRIPTION

This unit provides you with the knowledge and skills to work with women, their newborn babies and families during the birthing experience and early parenting days. Underpinning this unit is a belief that childbirth is essentially a normal and problem free experience. The unit will encourage you to develop attitudes that respect and support women in the decisions they make around birth and care of their newborn. You will develop the skills necessary to provide woman-centred care and guidance during the birthing and early parenting experience. Studies include legal, ethical and cultural factors that impact upon midwifery practice.

WEIGHT: 25%

ASSESSMENT:

3 case studies; skills assessment (ungraded); performance in practice (ungraded)

TEACHING PATTERN: Online; 3 compulsory study days prior to the commencement of semester
