DESCRIPTION
Introduces students to the major buildings and monumental structures of ancient Rome from the origins of the city to the Late Empire, relating them to historical and cultural context. The unit aims to give students an introduction to the major artistic movements of ancient Rome, to analyse the relation of monuments to social and historical events and to read material culture as an index of self-perception and representation.

ASSESSMENT: 3,000 words written work (50%), tutorial participation and attendance (10%); 2-hr exam (40%)
