Examines the history of the British Isles c. 1100 to c. 1600 in terms of the relations of its constituent polities and peoples. It will consider the role of myth-making as well as the role of more material forces in the political and cultural development of Britain from the Norman conquests to the informal union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland in 1603. A particular focus will be on the creation of both over-arching and competing national identities in the late medieval and Tudor periods.
