Examines culture contact in the Atlantic World from 1450 to the abolition of the Anglo-American slave trade. Geographically this will include West and Central Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean, the North American mainland colonies and the Atlantic Seaboard of Western Europe and the British Isles. Major themes will include slavery and the slave trade, the creation of creole societies, cross Atlantic migration, colonial trade and political conflict. The purpose of the unit is to create student understanding of the movements of peoples in cooperation and conflict and of the creation of colonial cultures by these people.
