DESCRIPTION

This unit examines the globalisation of environmental problems, broader governance approaches to global environmental policy, and the links between trade and environment. Students will gain an understanding of issues of international environmental governance, global political economy and ecology. The unit will also examine nation-state, international organisational and non-governmental roles in global policy processes. There will be some discussion of international regimes as major policy instruments for the management of the global environment.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT:

Intermediate level:1,000-word short essay (20%); 2,000-word essay (40%); 2-hr end-of-sem exam (40%);
Advanced level:1,000-word short essay (20%); 2,500-word essay (40%); 2-hr end-of-sem exam (40%)

TEACHING PATTERN: Int: 2-hr lecture weekly, 1 tutorial fortnightly;
Dist. Ed: web-based delivery of 13 lectures, 1 online tutorial discussion fortnightly
