DESCRIPTION This unit is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the evolution of Australian foreign policy, Australia's key partnerships and relationships both in its own region and beyond, as well as some of the emerging challenges that must be addressed. Specific attention is also paid to the institutional context in which policy is formulated, the constraints and opportunities afforded by 'middle power diplomacy', and the major strategic choices facing Australian foreign policy decision-makers in an era of globalisation. After completing this unit students will have a deeper understanding of Australia's national interests as well as the policies formulated to address them. Students will also be able to critically evaluate Australian foreign relations utilising a variety of analytical frameworks.
