DESCRIPTION This unit examines how and why new forms of governance have evolved over the past 25 years in response to deficiencies and policy failures of traditional public administration. Drawing on new insights from such fields as political science, organization theory, leadership studies and international relations, it explores alternative forms of governance based on inter-organisational networks, new public management, markets and international regimes. The unit thus provides a critical understanding of the changing institutional structures of governance through which public policy at the sub-national, national and international levels is increasingly being formulated and implemented.
