Studies the development of philosophy from the period of the early Greeks to the period of the Renaissance. Students are able to examine the ideas of philosophers like Plato and Aristotle; see how those ideas took a grip on the minds of theologians and other thinkers throughout the middle ages; see how the same ideas came together in the doctrines of St Thomas Aquinas and see how they laid the foundation for many philosophical beliefs of our own day. The unit will be useful not only to students of philosophy but also to students of history, literature, ancient civilisations, art, and religion.
