DESCRIPTION
This unit provides an introduction to the ethics of policing. It will present a conceptual framework for thinking about the ethical context of police work based on the implicit ethical commitments that arise from participation in a human community. The unit will focus on the practical context of police ethics, critical thinking and decision-making, drawing on case studies and the actual experience of officers.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT: 2,500 word essay (40%) plus 2 hour examination (60%)

TEACHING PATTERN: 39 hours delivered face-to-face at Police Academy
