This unit allows students to examine a selection of well-known Japanese narratives and how these have been adapted for the screen. Attention is also given to the socio-historic background of narratives and the films. Classes will be in English and all material will be available in English translations or with English subtitles. Students with an appropriate level of Japanese can also access materials in that language.

ASSESSMENT: 4 x 500 word reports (30%), 2,500 word essay (30%), 2-hr examination (40%)
