This unit is designed for students of advanced Chinese and for students of Chinese background who have skills in reading and writing Chinese. The unit consists of a) four lectures on how to choose a topic and conduct research, how to write a literature review, how to write a well-structured and properly referenced essay and how to present your research findings; b) structured individual consultations on how to read and write an essay on a topic in the area of Chinese studies that is approved by the lecturer.

ASSESSMENT:
Three reports (600 words each) 40%; research essay (3,000 words) 40%; oral presentation 20%
