The unit examines the emergence of ethnic and religious politics in Asia including their religious and community origins, their modes of political and social organisation, issues of violence associated with their rise and the responses of governments and other nationalist groups. The aim of the unit is to highlight the changing forms of identity politics in Asia and to consider the impact of these changes on the societies in which they have emerged.

ASSESSMENT: 2-hr exam (40%), 2,500-word essay (40%), 1,000-word tutorial paper and presentation (20%)
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified).
