This unit is suitable for international students and local students. Students must have successfully completed HMA251/351 Volunteering in Asia. Enrolment in this unit is according to selection criteria. Students must submit an application to the Unit Coordinator. Placement can be taken during any semester; dates to be negotiated with the Unit Coordinator.

This unit consists of a 4 week placement in a non-government organisation or equivalent in Asia. (Australian based placements in NGOs working on Asian issues will also be considered). Students will extend and build on the knowledge, skills and capabilities that they have acquired in their Asian Studies units. The practical and theoretical knowledge of volunteering gained in Voluntering in Asia will be implemented within the placement. The professional placement and project is agreed on in advance through consultation with the academic staff of the School, the student, and the host organisation. Placements can be in any country in Asia although each project must pass a risk assessment. Students will be supervised by the host organisation with the academic supervisor monitoring the placement to ensure that the content, progress and outcomes are of an appropriate standard.

HMA253: Portfolio (4,000 words 70%), host organisation assessment (10%), poster presentation at end of placement (20%)

HMA453:Portfolio (5,000 words 70%), host organisation assessment (10%), poster presentation at end of placement (20%)
