Introduces students to the workings of the global political economy by examining its trade, investment, financial and monetary dimensions. Examines the global economic governance system, focusing on the World Trade Organization (WTO), bilateral and regional investment treaties, the G8/G20 and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The unit investigates the impact of the global economy on local polities and the strategies communities are adopting to secure their economic survival in an economically turbulent world.
