DESCRIPTION

Provides a broad overview of the major theories and approaches to the study of crime and deviance. It provides a survey of diverse and competing interpretations of criminal and deviant acts, the situations and contexts within which crime and deviance is defined and takes place, and the explanations put forward for the causes and consequences of deviance in society.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT:

Level 200: 2,500 word major essay (40%), case study assessment (800 words) (20%), 2 hr exam (40%)
Level 300: 3,000 word major essay (40%), case study assessment (800 words) (20%), 2 hr exam (40%)

TEACHING PATTERN:

Internal: 2 lectures weekly, 1 tutorial fortnightly
