This unit provides students with an understanding of contemporary issues in journalism, media and communications from various international perspectives, together with an awareness of the social and political contexts of traditional and new media. Three issues will be covered in depth. These will vary from year to year, and may include media convergence, global media flows, intellectual property regimes, journalism cultures and practice, and the public sphere.

Completion of a Bachelor degree with a major in Journalism, Media and Communications or equivalent
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
