DESCRIPTION

Examines the relationship between the media and the environment. The sources of environmental news, news language, media framing and images are analysed using a variety of media studies methodologies. Practical journalistic exercises also give students a critical understanding of the forces operating in the field. The unit may include a field trip.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT: 1500-word essay (25%), 2000-word news stories/feature and critical analysis (35%), two-hour exam (40%)

TEACHING PATTERN: 5 contact hrs fortnightly
