For students who have a keen interest in contemporary German literature, the study of recent literary and popular poetry and song texts provides a solid foundation. The unit includes a study of a number of texts from post-1945 to contemporary Germany, with a special emphasis on works with a background of political or social criticism or statement. The texts are analysed against their socio-historical, (sub)-cultural backgrounds using a variety of analytical techniques.
