To aspiring writers, prolific American writer Stephen King offers the following advice: “If you want to be a writer, you must do
two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.” This unit offers aspiring writers a framework in which to set up an
independent course of reading that is relevant to their own creative practice. In consultation with the Unit Co-ordinator,
students will identify the key aspects of writing craft upon which they wish to focus. Students will be encouraged to explore
these key aspects through reading published fiction and non-fiction texts about writing practice. Findings and insights will be
shared through class presentations.
