This unit provides an opportunity for aspiring creative writers to focus on their creative practice and produce polished works of prose fiction. Students may choose to write a single 15,000 word work of fiction, or a suite of short stories comprising the same word length. Alternatively the work produced in this unit may constitute part of a larger work, a novella, completed through participation in Creative Writing 2. A supportive workshop environment will be the setting for discussions of relevant issues, such as planning, drafting, editing and opportunities for publication. Works-in-progress will be read and discussed in the workshop forum, and critical feedback will be formalised through a roster of in-class critiques of peer work.
