DESCRIPTION This unit provides opportunity to study a selection of well-known and less familiar Shakespearean plays with an emphasis upon the relationship between page and stage. The unit will include consideration of Shakespeare's uses of language and genre, intersections between the plays and the Elizabethan and Jacobean society that produced them, changing approaches to the plays in performance, and the varied meanings ascribed to the plays across time.

ASSESSMENT: 1x500 word exercise (10%), 1x3000 word essay (50%), 1x2hr exam (40%)
