DESCRIPTION

This unit concentrates on works of fiction dating from the late twentieth century to the present day. It situates the texts within a range of literary, theoretical, and cultural contexts to identify key concerns reflected in texts in the contemporary moment. The unit is designed to focus on a particular area of contemporary fiction, which will be determined by the specialization of staff teaching the unit in a particular year.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT: Short written exercises 500 words 20% Research essay 2000 words 40% 2 hour exam 40%

TEACHING PATTERN: 1 hour lecture p/w, 1 x 1.5 hour tutorial p/w 2-13
