The unit examines classical, popular, and controversial texts across a range of genres and cultures and from a selection of critical and theoretical perspectives. It pays specific attention to definition, ideology (including conceptions of childhood), narrative, the implied reader, intertextuality, and multi-media communication.

ASSESSMENT: 3,000 words of internal written assessment (60%); two-hour examination (40%)
