This unit will explore feminist contributions to epistemology, or the study of knowledge, ethics, and metaphysics (understandings of the nature of reality). We will examine whether and under what circumstances knowledge is gender-neutral, and whether (and when) the sex of the knower makes a difference. We will ask if women's moral assumptions and judgements actually differ from men's. In the final section of the unit we will analyse various conceptions of reality as interconnected and interdependent, making explicit the ways in which this understanding of reality supports different feminist claims about ethics and epistemology.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified).
