DESCRIPTION This unit provides students with an understanding of the roles, functions and status of women in past and present Aboriginal societies from Aboriginal perspectives. It considers the influence of colonisation in shaping both western and Aboriginal perceptions of Indigenous women's gender relations. Particular areas of study include the nexus of feminism and racism, Aboriginal women as the holders of knowledge and power, and contemporary social issues facing Aboriginal women.

Prereq
25% at level 100 in Aboriginal Studies major or cognate if completing the major. 25% at level 100 in any discipline in any faculty if taking as an elective.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
