DESCRIPTION This unit considers Tasmanian Aboriginal societies before European contact through to the end of the twentieth century. Topics explored include pre-contact Tasmanian Aboriginal socities and the contact histories between Tasmanian Aborigines and the French then the British. The impacts of colonisation and its aftermath are central foci and include issues such as socio-cultural accommodation, Aboriginal resistance, war, conciliation, punishment, exile and return, protest and reconciliation.

25% at level 100 in Aboriginal Studies major or cognate if completing the major. 25% at level 100 in any discipline in any faculty if taking as an elective.
