Listening, Style and Analysis enables detailed inquiry into selected key figures, musical structures and concepts that have developed within the established traditions of Jazz and improvised music. The contribution, style, approach and realised sound of selected musical figures will be analysed and recontextualised through the creative use of existing recordings, film/video footage and transcription. Based on this detailed analysis, students will ultimately generate their own transcriptions, contextualised performances and performance excerpts, recordings and analyses.
