DESCRIPTION

This unit is the second of two units aimed at providing an intensive course of study in music performance, designed to build your technical skills and musical expression. A wide range of styles and idioms will be included. Regular, detailed feedback on your work and progress is given during your weekly instrumental lessons and performance/composition class as well as through the more formal assessment tasks. At this level your study focuses on performance fundamentals. Your command of fundamental performance skills such as tone production, technical fluency, accurate tuning, correct tempo and rhythm will be demonstrated in both mid-semester (materials) and end of semester (performance) closed panel exams.

You undertake this study in the specialisation chosen in FCP110 Foundation Practical Study.

WEIGHT: 25%

ASSESSMENT: Performance Summative assessment/s: 50% eg: End of semester performance exam, evaluation of work undertaken through the semester Formative, cumulative assessments: 50% Teacher's assessments (2 x 10% in-semester tests): 20% Ensemble/group activities: 30% Composition: folio of semester work 80%, Participation and Composition Diary 10%, Performance of works 10%

TEACHING PATTERN: Minimum of 3 hours contact weekly comprising the following activities: 1hr specialist lesson (group and/or one-to-one tuition), 90 minute performance class and/or group tutorials, 2-3 ensemble rehearsal
