Music Materials 1A introduces students to the basic materials of tonal music through the study of notation, reading skills, aural skills and diatonic harmony. Students will develop fluency in notation and principles of pitch and rhythmic organisation, through reading and written exercises. Aural and sight-reading skills will be developed based on the written materials studied, to emphasise the immediate correlation between written notation and aural awareness. Students will participate in an aural choir project during the semester.
