DESCRIPTION

The first of two units, Orchestral Practice 4A enables orchestral instrumentalists to participate in a variety of activities designed to provide intensive pre-professional training in orchestral practice. The unit consists of orchestral/sectional rehearsals, repertoire and excerpts classes, masterclasses, audition and concert performance opportunities. Students may undertake this study in one of the following orchestral instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass

WEIGHT: 25%

ASSESSMENT: Cumulative: Ensemble skills (weekly, ongoing assessment by conductor): 25% Repertoire class/excerpts (week 5, week 10 jury assessments): 25% Summative: Professional conduct & performances: 50%

TEACHING PATTERN: Weekly: 2 hour repertoire workshop, 2hr-3hr ensemble rehearsal, 90 mins sectional; Also, 3 masterclasses scheduled during the semester
