DESCRIPTION This unit provides a comprehensive survey of the processes and structures used in developing contemporary song and popular music. Examples of stylistic and idiomatic devices used in a variety of song genres will be contextualized in relation to formally established songwriting forms and traditional means of expression and communication. Attention will be given to both music and lyric components.
